Auckland Light Rail - what might have been...

Updated: Aug 15

Kohu Strategy & Planning Limited(KSP) were fortunate to be part of the successful bid by the Aurecon & Arup alliance for the Auckland Light Rail project.

KSP were proud to have been a part of the Auckland Light Rail project, a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing Auckland’s mass transit system.

Although the project did not proceed to completion, our involvement in the planning and consent phases allowed us to contribute significantly to the vision of a modern, connected city.

Puawai’s role as the Māori Urban Planning Lead provided expert consultancy services throughout the planning & engagement process , ensuring that the project’s goals aligned with sustainable urban development and efficient transportation solutions

The Auckland Light Rail project was a landmark endeavour that sought to connect the city centre with key areas such as Māngere and the airport, promising to reshape Auckland’s public transport landscape.

Our participation in this project underscores our commitment to supporting large-scale infrastructure developments that drive urban growth and improve quality of life.

Although the project was eventually dis-established by a change in Government, the awesome work by the team and more information on the project can be found here - https://www.lightrail.co.nz/
