In 2022 The New Zealand Coastal Society – Te Hunga Takutai o Aotearoa (NZCS) released a special publication that focused on adapting to coastal change and hazard risk.
The report addressed the challenges of sea-level rise and its impact on coastal areas. It emphasizes the importance of adaptation and the need for proactive measures to mitigate these effects.
It highlighted the unique nature of coastal environments, and the long-term commitment required to manage sea-level rise, also discussing the various approaches to adaptation, including dynamic adaptive planning and nature-based solutions.
The publication underscores the collaborative efforts of experts and stakeholders in developing effective strategies and the critical role of monitoring and anticipatory adaptation in ensuring the resilience of coastal communities.
