Hearings Commissioner appointment - Helping Shape Regional Environmental Policy

Kohu Strategy & Planning is excited to reveal that Puawai, has been appointed to the Hearings Panel for the Greater Wellington Regional Council’s Natural Resources Plan(NRP) change. This initiative is key to advancing the region’s environmental management and sustainability practices.

The Natural Resources Plan aims to integrate new national directions and address key resource management issues, ensuring the protection and sustainable use of the coast, land, water, and air.

The NRP change focuses on implementing the Wellington Regional Growth Framework and recommendations from Te Awarua-o-Porirua (TAoP) and Te Whanganui-a-Tara (TWT) Implementation Programmes. These are essential for managing discharges, land use, and natural hazards to prevent degradation and pollution.

The first of four hearings has commenced this week (04/11/2024), with 4 further Hearings scheduled throughout 2025.

For more details on the proposed NRP change, including all submissions and a live stream of the Hearings, please visit the Greater Wellington Regional Council’s website.

As part of the Hearings Panel, Puawai looks forward to contributing to this significant initiative and working with stakeholders to shape a resilient and thriving future for the region.

Great to see this appointment, for the planning expertise Puawai will bring to the panel, and for the sharing of experiences between regions as councils across the motu approach implementation of government freshwater planning regulations.
